Newcastle Eagles have secured the signature of former Manchester Basketball guard/forward Kyle Carey for the 2026/27 Super League Basketball (SLB) season.
Carey arrives with considerable experience as he enters his seventh season at the highest level of British basketball, having begun his professional career with the London City Royals in 2018.
The 6’6 former England Under-18 and Great Britain Under-20 international joined Cheshire Phoenix in 2020, spending two seasons with the club and helping them lift the Trophy in his second year.

After one campaign with the then Surrey Scorchers, where he posted 219 points in 34 appearances, Carey returned to the North West in 2024 to join Manchester and has since become one of the SLB’s most prominent British players.
“Kyle is someone who already understands exactly what it means to represent Newcastle Eagles,” said head coach Marc Steutel.
“His professionalism, work ethic and willingness to put the team first are qualities every successful programme needs and has shown he is a player who can fit seamlessly into our Eagles system.
“He continues to improve every year and has earned the opportunity to take another step forward within our group.
“Kyle will give everything to this club every single day and we’re excited to continue supporting his journey. We are excited about his defensive focus and versatility on top of adding a spacing and rim attack presence to our roster.
“I know he’ll be doing all he can to maximise his impact here and I’m looking forward to seeing his continued play as a leading domestic player throughout the season”.
Carey led Myerscough College to an undefeated regular season in the EABL, earning a scholarship to NCAA Division 1’s University of Northern Colorado.
Last season, the 29-year-old was an important part of a strong Manchester side that finished third in the SLB standings and reached the finals of both the SLB Cup and the European North Basketball League (ENBL).
“I’m very excited to play for a historic club like Newcastle and I always enjoy playing in the Vertu Arena”, said Carey.
“I’ve known Marc for most of my playing career and I love what he’s about as a coach.
“I’m looking forward to playing for him and I can’t wait to get started.”
Having faced them as an opponent in recent seasons, Carey will now line up alongside Cole Long, Josh Ward-Hibbert and Mitch Clarke, while linking-up with fellow newcomers Trevond Barnes and Dwayne Cohill in Newcastle’s new-look roster.
Season tickets for the 2026/27 campaign, including access to exclusive events, discounts and more, are available from the box office.
