Newcastle Eagles have looked to the Canadian market once again as they bolster their roster for the 2026/27 Super League Basketball season as the club announces the signing of guard Blondeau Tchoukuiegno.

The 6’2” guard averaged 15.5 points, 4.2 rebounds, 5.6 assists and 1.3 steals per game for his hometown team Montreal Alliance of the Canadian Elite Basketball League (CEBL).

Tchoukuiegno joined the Alliance from the Niagara River Lions at the start of last season, having previously played in the CEBL alongside one of his new Eagles teammates and fellow Canadian, Cole Long.

“I’m really excited to join the Eagle family and can’t wait to meet y’all at the Vertu Arena,” said Tchoukuiegno.

“I’m looking forward to winning games and celebrating with you. You’re getting someone that’s very competitive and ready to do anything to win ball games.”

Tchoukuiegno spent five years in the NCAA Division 1 programme, starting at the University of New Hampshire, where he played for three seasons, before moving to California Baptist University for his final two years. In his senior season in 2023/24, he averaged 12.1 points, 2.9 rebounds and 3.0 assists per game.


The Montreal-born player then spent his rookie professional year 2024/25 in Croatia’s Premier League with KK Vrijednosnice Osijek averaging 12.5 points, 3.5 rebounds, 3.3 assists and 1.4 steals per game. He has also played professionally in Venezuela.

“Blondeau is a really exciting addition to our group and someone we believe fits incredibly well with how we want to play,” said Eagles head coach Marc Steutel.

“Throughout this process we wanted to add another guard who could impact the game on both sides of the ball and Blondeau’s competitiveness, desire to defend the right way and play with pace and purpose immediately stood out to us.”

“He has an infectious way of playing and he makes those around him better. He is coming to Newcastle hungry to compete, win and continue to establish himself as a high-level professional.”

Steutel’s final import arrives in Newcastle this week, just in time to pull on an Eagles jersey alongside his new teammates when they take to the Vertu Arena court on Friday, September 11, and Sunday, September 13, for pre-season action.
