Former Youngstown State University Penguins standout Dwayne Cohill is the latest import to land in the Eagles nest for the 2026/27 Super League Basketball (SLB) season.

The 6’2″ guard arrives in Newcastle for his fourth season as a professional, swapping one set of initials for another as he makes the move from Slovakia’s SBL to the SLB.

Cohill began his professional career with Agrigento in Italy’s Serie A2 in 2023 before joining Spišskí Rytieri (Knights of Spišská Nová Ves) the following year.

It was at Rytieri where the American impressed in both Slovakia’s top flight and the European North Basketball League (ENBL), producing performances that caught the eye of Eagles head coach Marc Steutel.

“Having played against the Eagles in the past, I’m excited to be a part of this club,” said Cohill.

“I’m looking forward to playing in front of some amazing fans and in a fast-growing, respected league with some great teams.

“I believe that I can bring a level of play that generates energy, enthusiasm, grit and passion, while looking to compete at the highest level.”

After spending two seasons at NCAA Division 1 Dayton University Cohill switched to the Youngstown for two stellar campaigns before graduating in 2023. In his senior year, he helped the Penguins to a regular season title as well as being selected to the All-Horizon First Team.

“Dwayne is a player we’ve admired for a long time and we’re delighted to finally bring him to Newcastle”, said Coach Steutel.

“He has a genuine ability to take ownership of games, whether that’s by creating offence for himself, making plays for his teammates or producing in big moments.

“What impressed us most throughout the process was his competitive nature and his desire to continue developing his game.

“We believe he is entering a really exciting and important stage of his career and we’re looking forward to helping him take another step.

“I’m excited to see him perform in front of our supporters and become an important part of what we’re building together.”
