NEWCASTLE COLLEGE EAGLES
TAKING FLIGHT
Spring 2023 saw the launch of the Newcastle College Eagles, the Under-19 Academy of the most-successful British basketball team of all-time, Newcastle Eagles.
Its first recruiting class for this exciting new venture was for the 2023/24 academic year and with two teams competing in that inaugural season.
The first team compete in the national College Basketball League (CBL) competition.
In their opening campaign, the Newcastle College Eagles started strong with the first team finishing in fifth place and with the second team becoming both regular season champions and playoff finalists.
Bringing coaching excellence to the partnership from the Eagles, the CBL team are coached by Anth Reed from the Eagles Community Foundation.
Student-athletes joining the Under-19 Academy are able to study vocational courses with Newcastle College and A Levels with Newcastle Sixth Form College, all while training up to eight times each week and competing in their games.
The Academy players’ coaching programme covers a mixture of on-court technical and team training sessions, as well as a programme of strength and conditioning.

ASSOCIATION OF COLLEGES (AoC)
Three Eagles Academy teams compete in the local Association of Colleges (AoC) league working together with our education partners Newcastle College, Gateshead College and Tyne Coast College.
Bringing in a wealth of experience from across the Eagles organisation, the AoC teams are coached by a number of well known and highly respected coaching talent.
Newcastle College Eagles AoC team are coached by Super League Basketball (SLB) men’s player Will Neighbour, Gateshead College AoC are led by former Eagles player and club legend Drew Lasker and Tyne Coast AoC have Eagles women’s SLB player Lauren Saiki.
