Newcastle Eagles can officially confirm they have retained their talisman, Josh Ward-Hibbert, for the 2026/27 season.
Heading into his 11th top-flight season in British basketball, and his fourth at the Eagles, the 6’5 guard will play a prominent role in head coach Marc Steutel’s roster.
“Josh is an integral part of what we want to build here. His time with us has demonstrated his immeasurable impact he has on the team and performance,” said Steutel.

“We missed him for the vast majority of last season, but in true Josh fashion his work ethic and approach to regaining full fitness is unrivalled, and we are excited to welcome the best version of Josh heading back into this year.
“Josh is someone who represents Newcastle in the way it should be represented, and we are looking forward to him leading the group as captain.”
The 32-year-old featured in just eight Super League Basketball (SLB) games last season due to injury, but returned down the stretch with his trademark commitment and drive to support his teammates.
There’s no doubt that the experienced Great Britain international’s presence at both ends of the floor, combining defensive organisation, scoring power, knowledge and leadership, makes him a key weapon in Steutel’s armoury.

“It feels great to be back with the Eagles for the upcoming SLB season,” said Ward-Hibbert.
“Last year was a tough one, so I’m super excited to put the Newcastle jersey on once again and get back on-court in front of the best fans in the league.”
This confirmation will give a real boost to everyone connected with the Newcastle Eagles, and fans will be eager to see a fully fit Josh Ward-Hibbert once again showcase the international-class quality he brings to the club.

Season tickets for the 2026/27 campaign, including access to exclusive events, discounts and more, are available from the box office.
Fans can take advantage of the Early Bird offer with savings until the end of July and a 3-month payment plan option also available.
