Despite only being 24 years of age, Sauver Kande has been confirmed as a Newcastle Eagle for an eighth successive top-flight season.

Kande is player who has played under three different Newcastle coaches following his graduation from the Eagles Academy and will be looking to build on an impressive 2025/26 Super League Basketball (SLB) season in which his contributions continued to grow.

Head coach Marc Steutel said: “Sauveur is still a young player in terms of his development with enormous potential and someone we’re excited to continue investing in.

“He is coming off his best personal year to date with some really positive moments in and Eagles jersey.

“As someone who lives and breathes the fabric and DNA of this club, he is a player who has continually earned the trust of the whole organisation.

“He has an outstanding attitude towards learning, works incredibly hard every day and wants to improve in every aspect of his game. Those qualities are invaluable within the environment we’re trying to create.


“Sauveur understands that his journey as a pro is a process, but we believe he has a very bright future ahead of him and feel pleased to retain him on his second professional contract.

“We’re looking forward to supporting that journey and watching him continue to grow as both a player and a person throughout the season.”

Following the retirement at the end of last season of Eagles legend Darius Defoe, Kande now becomes Newcastle’s longest serving current professional player.

The 6’4” guard who is renowned for his outside shooting played 23 SLB games last season.


His end of season average of 2.6 points per game included a career high 21 points against Bristol Flyers on the 26th April this year where he made five of six from beyond the arc. Kande also played seven times for the Eagles in the European North Basketball League (ENBL) averaging 2 points per game.

“I’m really excited to be back for another season with the Newcastle Eagles and looking forward to getting to work, helping the team however I can,” said Kande.

“I’ll be giving everything I have every time I step on the court and I can’t wait to get started with season number eighth for my hometown.”

Sauveur tips-off with his fellow returning and new teammates this Sunday against Surrey 89ers in the first of three pre-season clashes for the Eagles.
