Newcastle Eagles expect pathway poster boy and local hero Sauveur Kande to take giant steps forward during the 2024/25 Super League Basketball (SLB) campaign.
The talented small forward has signed for a fourth successive season as a senior professional on Tyneside.
And Newcastle head coach Marc Steutel has challenged Kande to realise his potential as one of the region’s most talked about rising stars.
“Sauveur is expected to take steps forward this season after earning the organisation’s trust over the past few years,” said the Eagles playcaller.
“His work ethic and desire to improve are so important.
“And, as a local player who has developed through our pathway, Sauveur has a huge responsibility to continue his development and make a daily impact as a professional player.
“I believe he is ready for this challenge and I am looking forward to welcoming him back for the exciting season ahead.”
Newcastle boasted an impressive 6-1 record during Kande’s seven Championship appearances last season.
And there’s little doubt the fast-improving Tynesider brings a fresh sense of energy and urgency every time he steps on court.
Securing meaningful minutes on a regular basis is Kande’s biggest challenge within a deep roster built to compete at home and abroad.
But Steutel is prepared to give the youngster every opportunity to stake his claim and put pressure on the club’s raft of overseas signings.
“Grateful for the opportunity to represent my hometown club once again,” said Kande.
“Excited for the opportunity to play Super League Basketball and in the ENBL competition again.
“And of course most excited to have our Eagles fans supporting us along the way!”
Kande tasted European action for the first time last season —playing 10 minutes against Belgian powerhouse Liege.
And building on that ENBL experience is at the forefront of Kande’s mind as the DR Congo-born player bids to boost his court time.
