Head Coach Matt Newby’s next signing for the Newcastle Eagles Women’s team comes with an impressive CV as 5’ 8” guard Jada Guinn joins the club following graduation from the University of Tennessee at Chattanooga.

After four impressive seasons with Tennessee Tech University where she improved year on year and was named Ohio Valley Tournament MVP in 2022/23, she moved to Chattanooga last season for her Super Senior year and had a spectacular campaign.

Averaging 19.5 points, 6.9 rebounds and 2.5 assists per game the dynamic back court talent who majored in Exercise Science and Physical Wellness lead the ‘Mocs’ all the way to the Southern Conference tournament championship.

Guinn flies into the Eagles from University of Tennessee at Chattanooga.

A career-high 33 points in the semi-final against Mercer led Chattanooga to the final and then Guinn netted 32 points, 18 in the final quarter, to help her side defeat UNC Greensboro in the final.

Defeat in the Women’s March Madness to powerhouse North Carolina State followed the championship but Guinn still managed to net 13 points in that defeat. Overall last season she started all 33 games for The Mocs and only on one occasion failed to net double figures.

“Jada is an incredible high order asset who has proven herself time and time again, with a standout career at Tennessee Tech and Chattanooga she brings more high level calibre to our backcourt,” said head coach Newby.

“An exciting aspect of this signing is Jada’s commitment to her studies.

“She has taken a prestigious academic scholarship with Newcastle University in the highly ranked and acclaimed business school.

“In terms of on the court she’s a versatile perimeter with a very strong drive and midrange game which opens up other aspects for her individually and for her team, coupled with the additional possessions she gives you defensively and on the glass.”

“We have made a very strong signing to compliment an exciting perimeter”.

As for Guinn herself? Well, she can’t wait to arrive on Tyneside and get started with the Eagles as she expressed her gratitude at being able to seize such an exciting situation.

“It’s an honour to get to play for such a successful organisation,” Guinn added.

“I’m thankful I get this opportunity to play for such a great team. I’m ready to get out there and compete at the highest level.

“I’m looking forward to playing some great competition and looking to bring a championship to this program.

“I hope to grow as a player and get the chance to play against some of Britain’s top-flight teams and players.

“I have a winner’s mentality to the team. I know what it’s like to be on multiple championship teams and I know what it takes to win.

“I bring a calm presence on the court with a play-making ability to create for myself and others.”

“I bring the mid-range game which is sort of a lost art in the women’s game as well. I also bring that connective spirit to my teammates and coaches. I’ve always been a player that is sort of that glue in teams.”

It sounds like the Eagles have made another very astute acquisition that fans can meet at ‘The Launch’ in the Vertu Motors Arena on Friday 6th September.

Tickets for ‘The Launch’ can be purchased from the box office.
