Newcastle Eagles have made some pre-Christmas changes to bolster their roster as two fly out and explosive 5’10 point guard Terrell Burden Jr flies in.

Burden lands in Tyneside this weekend to take up his new duties ahead of a full-on festive schedule for the Eagles that starts with a European North Basketball League (ENBL) away game in Bulgaria on Wednesday.

“I’m blessed to be an Eagle and play in front of everyone in the Vertu Arena”, said Burden.

“I’m looking forward to bringing my playmaking skill to the team to help my teammates thrive”.

This will be the dynamic 25-year-old’s second season of professional basketball after he completed a stellar NCAA Division 1 career with the Owls of Kennesaw State University in the Atlantic-Sun Conference. The playmaker spending five seasons with the Georgia based university from 2019.

In 2022/23 he helped Kennesaw lift the Atlantic-Sun Conference Tournament Championship for the first time in their history being named in the All-Tournament Team after taking the accolade of MVP in the Championship game.

In his final senior year in 2023/24 he averaged 16.8 points, 3.5 rebounds and 6.3 assists per game.

His first season in the professional ranks was spent in two countries. Starting in Slovenia with Rogaska Crystal in the Premier A Slovenian Basketball League. He joined the club in January of 2025 and went on to play nine games averaging 19.9 points, 4.1 rebounds and 7.6 assists.

The Georgia native’s career assists stats will no doubt excite Eagles fans as the club gets him registered for both ENBL and Super League Basketball (SLB) action next week.

“Terrell is a player who will add a different dynamic to our roster as this stage”, said Eagles Head Coach Marc Steutel.

“We believe this signing will enhance and strengthen our squad as we continue to build and improve our play.

“He is a fierce competitor with a natural ability to play-make and facilitate and we are excited to add him to our roster.”

In related moves both Malcolm Smith and Marco Anthony depart Newcastle next week.
