Following a breakthrough 2025/26 season, Newcastle Eagles return an essential part of last year’s Women’s Super League Basketball (SLB) roster in British guard Alex Campbell.

This will be the popular 5’7″ player’s fifth season on the Eagles roster and last time out she was often thrust into a starting role by head coach Chloe Gaynor, who clearly believes in Campbell’s ability.

“Alex had a breakout season last year and proved herself to be one of the up-and-coming young British talents in the league,” said Gaynor.

“This is testament to the work she has put in over the course of the last 4 years with us.

“Heading into year five, we’ll be looking for Alex to continue building her confidence offensively and developing her three-point shot as well as asserting herself on the defensive end.

“Alex is an integral member of the team with regards to culture and we’re looking forward to her helping us continuing to build our Eagles identity this season.”

Gaynor’s confidence in re-signing Campbell shows what the 22-year-old can deliver for the team and how important she is to holding up Newcastle’s principles for the coming season.

“I’m excited to be back and wearing the Eagles logo for another season,” said Campbell.

“I learnt a lot about myself as a player last year and I feel more than ready to deliver for the team. I’m eager to get preseason started and build those strong relationships with teammates that help get the job done.

“As always, I’m hoping for even bigger crowds than last year and great energy from the fans, which always happens. Hopefully we can give them something great to watch.”

Campbell joins an as yet largely new-look Eagles roster as the club continues to unveil its women’s side for the 2026/27 campaign, which is set to tip-off in October.

Confirmation of pre-season fixtures are expected within the coming week and more signings are due to be announced soon.
