Newcastle Eagles’ Knight in shining armour is ready to conquer Europe as the men in black prepare for the biggest game of their season so far.

Marc Steutel’s in-form roster hosts CSO Voluntari tonight as two undefeated teams put their 4-0 records on the line.

And Seneca Knight is determined to land the first blow after insisting he’s one of the best ballers around.

“I love testing myself against teams from other leagues,” revealed the prolific small forward. “I feel like I’m one of the best players in all of Europe.

“I know that’s a bold statement so it’s my job to go out and prove it night after night.

“With the new additions we’ve made to the team we’re looking really strong.

“Give the new guys a week or two to find their rhythm and we’re going to be unstoppable.”

Given Newcastle’s sparkling form at home and abroad during November it’s difficult to argue against Knight’s confident assessment.

The Eagles have found multiple ways to win throughout an injury-hit campaign but suddenly Steutel has a plethora of options in every position.

And Knight is enjoying his best spell yet in a black and white jersey with the big numbers to back up his undeniable talent.

Last season’s European Basketball North League (ENBL) leading scorer took the MVP honours in Poland last week as Newcastle bagged a brilliant win in Warsaw.

And Knight followed that up with another double double against Cheshire on Friday night as the Eagles claimed a sixth win in seven.

“I think the first half against Phoenix on Friday was as good as this team’s played all season,” he added.

“We pride ourselves on defence and we did a great job for 20 miniutes.

“Phoenix had beaten us twice already this season so I think there was a bit of an underdog mentality underpinning our performance.

“And I think that’s our mindset when we take on the bigger teams in Europe.”

CSO toppled Newcastle in Romania last season but Steutel’s Eagles have plenty in their locker to avenge that 84-76 loss.

New boy Christian James already looks like the real deal and the return to fitness of Darius Defoe couldn’t be better timed.

But Voluntari crushed domestic rivals CSU Sibiu 112-68 on Saturday to cement second spot in the competitive Liga Naționalǎ.

And the beaten 2024 ENBL finalists have cruised to four wins from four in Group A as they look to go one better next spring.

“This has to be one of the biggest games in franchise history,” said Steutel as the Great Britain playcaller prepares to put his coaching credentials on the line again tonight.

“We played them at their place last year and gave a good account of ourselves against an organisation with a rich heritage and a lot of resources.

“We know there’s only going to be one undefeated team left in this group come the final buzzer and hopefully it’s us.

“It’s a big ask but I love the fact that the fans are really getting behind this European campaign and that we’re really building some momentum.

“I think they should dream big and I wouldn’t want anything less from our loyal supporters.

“I’m doing the same but at the same time I have to make sure that we take care of business.

“The ENBL is a massive opportunity for this organisation but, at the same time, it’s a huge challenge.”

CSO have five players averaging double figures in this season’s ENBL with dangermen Lewis Markel Sullivan and Michael Anthony Caffey in sparkling form.

Nevertheless, Knight is outscoring all of Voluntari’s big guns to lead Newcastle in the competition with 16 points per game.

Tickets for tonight’s clash are still available on the door and in advance on the box office.
