Seriös Group Newcastle Eagles have returned Zoe Willis to the Nest as their second signing for the 2023/24 Women’s British Basketball League season.

Willis originally flew in after graduating from NCAA Division 2 American International for the start of the 2022/23 and the Eagles had high hopes that she could have a big impact on the roster.

Unfortunately, injuries didn’t allow the 5’ 9” guard/forward to show her full range of talents and ability last season and in 16 games she was only able to average 3.9 points and 2.6 rebounds a game.

However, Head Coach Noelia Cacheiro saw enough of Willis’ potential in the last campaign to retain her services for the new women’s league regular season and feels she’s the type of player she wants on her roster.

“Zoe is one of our best team players. She had a transition season to the WBBL last year, and she has been putting in the work to be a threat for our opponents this coming campaign,” coach Cacheiro commented

“Zoe is approaching this coming season with a great winning mentality, which will help push the team to the next level. I’m really excited about having Zoe on board.”

Willis shares her coach’s enthusiasm about coming back for her second season after her injury troubled first at the club.

“I am so excited to be back with the Eagles playing in front of the best fans in the league,” Willis added.

“Last year I struggled with many injuries so I feel ready – physically and mentally – for this season ahead.

“I’m grateful to have people around me who share the same drive for success, I’m looking forward to the season ahead with some new additions that’ll help push us in the right direction.”

Willis will be in the roster suiting up at the Eagles women’s first regular season game against Caledonia Gladiators on Saturday 28 October at 7:30pm.
