The home of Newcastle Eagles, the most successful British basketball team of all-time, is set to be the venue for even more North East sporting successes as it prepares to host a star-studded line-up of the region’s boxing talent next month.

Josh Kelly leads the card that will showcase the area’s brightest prospects as Wasserman Boxing head to the Vertu Motors Arena on Saturday 30 July for a huge night of action.

Over 3,000 will take their seats at the Scotswood Road multi-purpose events and sports venue while a predicted viewing audience surpassing 1 million will watch live on Channel 5, in association with William Hill, Numan and Infinitum Entertainment.

The Wasserman Boxing Fight Night is set to be the largest crowd ever hosted at the arena which has seen record numbers of sold-out domestic and international basketball games over the last 12-months.

After a slick stoppage win over Peter Kramer, ‘PBK’ Josh Kelly continues his world title pursuit as he returns to the North East for the first time since his 2018 win against Kris George.

“It’s exciting times – going back up to the North East and being able to be busy again is exactly what I want,” said Kelly.

“It was great to be back doing what I love again. Staying active and producing more of the same is the main thing now, I’m hungry for more.”

The North East takeover continues, as former Geordie Shore star and MMA fighter Aaron Chalmers makes his second pro fight in his beloved hometown of Newcastle.

“I’m looking forward to fighting in Newcastle, it’s my hometown. I’ve fought there twice before and we’ve managed to sell the place out, the volume was immense and the place was absolutely electric”, added Chalmers.

“The fans can expect more aggression from me in this fight. I was a little hasty on my debut, but a calculated and aggressive fighter is what to expect. I don’t come to go the distance, and if I can get a knockout win in Newcastle I know I’ll blow the roof of the place.”
