Newcastle Eagles’ pursuit of an additional point guard brings talented-Texan prospect Trey Pulliam to Tyneside.

Pulliam will join his new team-mates on the road this weekend as they await the green-light for him to hit the ground running in an Eagles jersey.

Club officials are working behind the scenes to secure the clearance and licences needed for the US star to feature in tomorrow’s Super League Basketball clash at Bristol.


Point guard Trey Pulliam comes to the Eagles from APOEL Nicosia in Cypriot OPAP Basket League.

“I want to come in and bring high energy defence, as well as my high-level playmaking ability to orchestrate the offense and help the team win games,” said the former San Diego State Aztecs star.

“It’s exciting to join the team and become part of the Newcastle Eagles. After watching a few games, I love the energy from both the team and the fans.

“I’m very passionate about the sport of basketball and love playing in front of fans that are passionate as well.”


Trey Pulliam started all 31 games in which he appeared in his senior year at college with an average of 8.7 points and 2.5 rebounds.

Pulliam joins the Eagles at a pivotal stage of the season with Marc Steutel’s men en route to this month’s SLB Trophy Final in Birmingham and with their ENBL quarter-final ticket punched.

And although Newcastle have enjoyed a superb start to the 2024/25 campaign it has long been acknowledged that a pure playmaker could be the missing piece.

Pulliam averaged 11 points and 4.4 assists per game last season in Cyprus.

After landing Pulliam he said: “We are really excited to welcome Trey to our group.

“When looking to add to this roster — who I have full belief in — I want to make sure I’m bringing in the right person and the right player. We believe Trey is just that.


“He’s a talented, team-first point guard, who cares about winning and we are looking forward to getting him acclimated with our group.”

Pulliam enjoyed two successful seasons in Serbia as a rookie professional before moving to APOEL Nicosia last October.

Pulliam played for Cacak 94 in Serbia’s KLS after Graduating from San Diego State.

An astonishing seven steals on debut made the Texan an instant favourite with Cypriot fans.

And Pulliam heads to Tyneside having averaged 11 points, four assists, two rebounds and two steals across 11 games for APOEL.

This weekend’s Trophy Final dress rehearsal at the Flyers could come too soon to get some quality court time under his belt before the two teams clash in Birmingham on January 26.

But Pulliam is certain to suit-up against London on January 17 in what promises to be a mouthwatering Championship clash.
