Northumbria University’s Mens BUCS 1st team bounced back on Wednesday at home to Loughborough University with a superb 94 – 82 home win after losing their unbeaten record last week at Worcester 76 – 65. That loss at Worcester was played without all four Eagles stars and their absence cost Northumbria dear.
But last night Scott Martin and Darius Defoe returned to the line-up to help guide their side to an impressive victory over a Loughborough side that included no less than six of the Leicester Riders BBL squad, all of which contributed to the Loughborough total but not enough to lower Northumbria’s colours.
And that was mainly down to the huge impact that Darius and in particular Scott had on the Northumbria score sheet. Darius went for 26 points an impressive haul but nothing compared to his Eagles team-mate who had a night to remember. Scott went for an amazing 43 points to lead all scorers in the game.
The result took Northumbria to the top of the Premier North table with a 4 – 1 record and they’re looking good to qualify for the play-offs on this form and with their Eagles flying alongside their EBL players it would be a brave man to bet against them.
