Jordan Spencer played his final game for Newcastle Eagles on Friday night, after the club approved his request to be released from his contract so he can further his non-basketball career.

Spencer leaves Newcastle with the whole Eagles organisation’s support to pursue a profession beyond our sport.

“Jordan has had an opportunity arise off the floor that is too good for him to pass on,” head coach Marc Steutel said.

“Whilst I, of course, want Jordan to be with us for the business end of the season, we understand the opportunity he has and he will leave with our full support.

“Jordan’s impact on and off the floor with this group has been immense and I will always be personally proud that his return to top-flight basketball contributed to our successful Trophy campaign.

“Jordan is an exceptional person who will have a long and successful career with this new opportunity and he will always be welcome back at the Vertu Motors Arena.”

While the British guard was absent from our Eagles’ win on the road at Manchester on Sunday, the club is sure that Friday night won’t be the last fans see of him on a basketball court.

“I want to first thank Paul [Blake], Sam [Blake] and Marc [Steutel] for recruiting me and giving me an opportunity to play at the highest level again”, Spencer added.

“The Eagles is a truly professional organisation that have been amazing to me both on and off the court. I can’t thank them enough.

“The amazing Newcastle fans made me feel part of the Eagles family in such a short space of time.

“This decision hasn’t come lightly but I’ve had an opportunity for my career after basketball that I could not step away from.

“To my teammates, who I worked endlessly on a daily basis, I wish nothing but success and more silverware!

“Thank you so much to the Newcastle Eagles staff, fans and community for a truly memorable season.

“I will always support the organisation and wish the Eagles nothing but the best.”

The Eagles wish Jordan all the best in the future and with his new career, and thank him for all his commitment to the club during his time on Tyneside.
