Jeremy Hyatt has signed for Newcastle Eagles for a seventh successive season making him the club’s current longest serving player. Hyatt, who first signed for the Eagles way back in 2001 is one of the best known players in the BBL, establishing himself as one of the league’s most dangerous shooting guards.

The 6ft 6in graduate of North Carolina State is pleased to be back on Tyneside and having already begun pre-season practices with the team is counting down the days to the brand new 2007-08 BBL season. “I am so excited about this brand new season and it is going to be a case of me focusing on nothing but winning trophies and getting back to winning more silverware.”

” We can definitely compete again on all fronts again hopefully it’s going to be a big year for the team and for me personally.” explained Hyatt.

“It’s a really good feeling to be back and with a few new players coming in, it will be a real experience – a new beginning and I am ready for the challenge and just can’t wait to see how the chips are going to fall.”

Eagles play-caller Fab Flournoy meanwhile is thankful that he hasn’t lost last season’s first-choice back-court altogether with TJ Walker now in his own player-coaching role at Cheshire Jets.

Flournoy explained that hanging on to Hyatt will certainly help his team this season. He said “Jeremy offers us six years of BBL experience here at the same club and knows everything there is to know about our system and what is expected of the players.”

“He is known around the league as a quality player and everyone is aware of his talent and ability to shoot the lights out. Losing TJ but keeping Jeremy means we still have a vital component remaining in our backcourt which is massively important for us.”

“It helps us continuity wise and as a coach I don’t have to spend time with another rookie player but can focus my efforts elsewhere knowing Jeremy has a real understanding of what we do.”

“I am hoping for a big year from Jeremy.”

Hyatt joins up with his team-mates for pre-season practice with the club expected to complete their roster early next week ahead of Tuedsday’s official team launch.
