At last night’s glittering award ceremony for BBC North East Sport at Sunderland Tennis Club there was yet another honour bestowed on Esh Group Eagles Newcastle. The record-breaking franchise was deservedly awarded The Team of the Year award for the fantastic 2015 they’ve had so far.

A year that started with the end of the 2014/15 season and The Eagles winning all four National BBL trophies and so far as it comes to a close, The Eagles have put up an unbeaten start to the 2015/16 season winning 12 games from the start of the season, a franchise record.

Those wins include eleven in The BBL Championship where they are the last unbeaten side so far this season and a BBL Cup Quarter-Final win over Glasgow Rocks that has earned them a semi-final tie against Cheshire Phoenix.

The award was presented by legendary ex-Sunderland goalkeeper Jimmy Montgomery by Eagles’ Managing Director Paul Blake and Head Coach Fab Flournoy.

Flournoy talked about living in the moment and making the most of your opportunities. He also praised the Club for the way it worked and his players for working hard, practising in the right manner and preparing correctly for games.

Blake meanwhile complimented Flournoy on the way he leads his team and the motivation he gives to his players reminding people that if you make the right appointment to lead your Club and people follow his philosophies then you have a good chance of success.

BBC Look North will show highlights of the ceremony at 6:30pm tonight and The Eagles are next in action at Sport Central tomorrow night tipping off against Manchester Giants at 7:30pm.
