Glasgow Rocks 85 (17,26,61) (Green 23, Wedemire 22, Huffor/Cranston 14)
Newcastle Eagles 89 (21,47,64) (Chapman 27, Smith 15, Gause 13)
Newcastle Eagles maintained their unbeaten start to the BBL Championship with an 89-85 win at Glasgow Rocks in an amazing match north of the border.
Eagles looked to be coasting to their seventh consecutive win when they won the second quarter 29-9 to open up a 47-26 lead at half time. However, Rocks produced a superb third quarter effort to trail by just three (64-61) with ten minutes to play.
The home team briefly took the lead at 70-69 before Newcastle showed again why they will be the team to beat.
They took the lead for good on a Paul Gause steal and dunk at 81-79 and a two by the wily veteran Charles Smith extended their advantage to 83-79.
Rocks kept trimming the gap to just one shot through a combination of free throws and a Mychal Green two, but once Fab Flournoy had split two from the line to make it a four point game with ten seconds to play there was no way back for the home side.
Eagles’ Joe Chapman led all scorers with 27 while November Player of the Month Green was Rocks’ top man on 23 points.
