Seriös Group Newcastle Eagles are delighted to announce signing number three for the 2023/24 Women’s British Basketball League season is Courtney Clasen.

Clasen will suit up for her third season in the women’s league although the first two were plagued by injury.

First signing in 2021/22 the talented guard’s season ended before a ball was bounced and then last year a recurrence meant that she once again faced a lengthy time out.

Determination and commitment to the game saw the 5’8″ American manage to battle back from both those injuries and Eagles fans finally saw glimpses of the ability and reasons why the franchise continue to bring her in back.

Head coach Noelia Cacherio had no hesitation in returning a fully-fit Clasen saying: “Courtney is a hard-working athlete whose talent has been hidden by injury in the WBBL so far.

“She has now competed with the Eagles for a season and I am looking forward to seeing how Courtney allows herself to just play the game and show the Eagles fans, and herself, her true potential.

“I am hoping that with restored confidence in her physical ability, we will see Courtney’s best performances with the Eagles’ jersey in the 2023/24 campaign.”

Clasen will target the starting five as the Eagles women tip-off their first regular season game against Caledonia Gladiators on Saturday 28 October at 7:30pm.

“The Vertu Motors Arena feels like home to me,” said Classen.

“I’m so fortunate and excited to spend another season playing for an organization that continues to grow the women’s game, and for fans that are the primary advocates and reason behind that growth!”
