Newcastle Eagles pair Charles Smith and Lynard Stewart have both been picked for the BBL Team of the Week following game-winning performances in the BBL Cup semi-final first leg.

Eagles take a 112-105 lead into Friday’s second leg on Merseyside, thanks in no small part to a combined 43 points from Smith and Stewart.

Smith shot an incredible six from six three-pointers on his way to a game-high 25 points – and also converted his three attempts from the foul line in 27 minutes of action.

Current Molten player of the year Stewart finished with 18 points, eight rebounds and four assists in 31 minutes as Eagles take a seven point lead to Greenbank Academy on Friday.

One of the players they will be facing, Tigers’ Andre Smith, fills the other forward spot in the team following his performance against BiG Cheshire Jets. Smith had 27 points and 13 boards as Tigers defeated their local rivals 83-74 on their own court. He also finished with 24 points and 13 rebounds in Saturday’s loss in Newcastle.

Despite a surprise home loss against Worcester Wolves, Airwaves Plymouth Raiders shooting guard Drew Lasker gained a nomination for the Team of the Week following his 33 points performance on Saturday evening. Lasker converted 11 from 16 field goals and also pulled down seven boards in a 40- minute performance for Gary Stronach’s team.

It’s been a good week for Rob Yanders, as he’s been named Molten Player of the Month as well as being picked in the team of the week. The Scottish Rocks point guard hit four from eight three-point attempts and drained all eight free-throws on his way to a 26 point haul in the 90-85 victory at PAWS London Capital. Yanders also dished out seven assists as he played all bar 31 seconds of the game.
