Newcastle U14s win at home to City of Leeds
The game started with the home team attempting to set the pace from the tip off. The visiting scored first as the eagles needed to find their feet. The home team capitalised on the fact that the visiting team lacked transition defence 1st quarter ended 28-11 in favour of the home team.
The second quarter the eagles traded baskets with Leeds but with the home team scoring 17 points points in the quarter could not be matched by Leeds. The first half ended 45- 23
The first half scoring was dominated by Onyenekwe and Osarenkhoe. The young Eagles took advantage of the fact that Leeds could not handle any pressure on the inbounds and capitalised on this in the first half.
In third quarter the home team made a few mistakes of their own to allowing Leeds to score but overall the home team showed a renewed vigor and presence on the floor with defensive intensity being the key to success scoring a massive 30 points in the 3rd majority of it coming in the final 4 minutes. The 3rd quarter ended 75-33.
The fourth saw the Eagles try to hold their ground and capitalise on the foul trouble that Leeds were in take the final buzzer and the win 99-47.
U14s Head Coach, Calvin George said: “Last time we played Leeds they beat us by 2 points, the score line today shows the kind of progress we have made.”
