Newcastle Eagles have gone down under to dig up their latest 2026/27 Women’s Super League Basketball (SLB) roster recruit in 21-year-old Maddy Hinton.

The 5’6″ guard, who also holds a British passport, will be playing outside of her home land for the first time and joins the Eagles following three seasons at Norwood Flames in Australia’s NBL Division 1 Central.

“I’m incredibly excited and grateful to join the Newcastle Eagles for the 2026/27 season,” said Hinton.

“I am looking forward to playing SLB with a new team of amazing athletes and coaching staff and excited to play in front of the amazing crowds at Vertu Arena.

“I’m hoping to bring my experience playing NBL1 to the group, as well as energy, a strong work ethic and competitiveness.”

Last season, Hinton helped the Flames to a third place finish with a 12 win 7 loss record with her best season as senior player, averaging 13.5 points, 2.7 rebounds and 2.6 assists per game.

The Australian-British dual-national brings powerful driving, the ability to shoot the 3-ball and tough defence to head coach Chloe Gaynor’s new-look side.

“Maddy joins us this season after a successful summer campaign in Australia’s NBL 1,” said Gaynor.

“Strengthening our back court and perimeter-based identity, Maddy will bring an additional 3-point and pick-and-roll threat to our team.

“I’m looking forward to working with Maddy in her first season in the UK and believe her competitiveness and work ethic will be something the fans will love to get behind.”

The Eagles women’s pre-season schedule has been unveiled with tip-offs away and at home against Caledonia Gladiators and tickets for the Vertu Arena clash on Saturday 26 September are available now from the box office.
