Newcastle Eagles welcome the arrival of NCAA standout Nala Williams to their Women’s Super League Basketball (SLB) roster for the 2026/27 season.

The talented 5’8″ guard begins her professional career on Tyneside after completing one of the most impressive collegiate journeys in recent years.

Across three years at NCAA Division 2’s Cal State Dominguez Hills, Williams made a name for herself scoring over 1,500 points and went on to claim National Player of the Year honours in 2024/25.

Williams made the jump to D1 basketball with the San Diego State University Aztecs last season adding Mountain West Player of the Year to her impressive résumé.

A dynamic offensive threat capable of attacking the basket and stretching defences from the perimeter, Williams also arrives with a reputation as a proven playmaker after averaging four assists per game during her senior campaign.

“Nala is joining us this season after a very good career in the NCAA having won two divisional playing awards in her last two college seasons”, said Eagles women’s head coach Chloe Gaynor.

“I think fans this season will enjoy watching Nala play, her toughness to get downhill as well as her ability to shoot from the perimeter will make her hard to guard.

“Averaging four assists per game, Nala will be instrumental in facilitating for the team and we’re expecting her to get after it this season on the defensive end of the floor.

“We look forward to welcoming Nala to Newcastle soon for her rookie season.”

The Californian’s blend of scoring, distribution and defensive intensity has made her a player that Newcastle fans can look forward to seeing in action this coming season.

“I’m incredibly excited to be joining the Eagles and starting my professional career in such a great environment,” said Williams.

“I’m looking forward to playing in front of the amazing fans at the Vertu Arena, experiencing a new place and culture, and competing in the SLB.

“I hope to bring my competitiveness, work ethic, and versatility to the roster, and I’m excited to help the team achieve success while continuing to grow as a player.”

Williams joins Chloe Gaynor’s growing Eagles roster for the 2026/27 campaign, with further player announcements set to follow as preparations continue for the new season.

Tickets for the women’s opening SLB Championship tip-offs are available now from the box office and a pre-season tip-off it set to be confirmed by the club in due course.
