Newcastle Eagles is pleased to announce the first recruit to its Women’s Super League Basketball (SLB) playing roster for the 2026/27 season in Pollyanna Storie.

It is a return to the UK’s top-flight for the Canadian collegiate star as the 6’2 forward is no stranger to the British basketball scene, after playing for four seasons with Caledonia Pride in the then WBBL, before having a stellar five-year stint at the University of Calgary.

Women’s head coach Chloe Gaynor, said: “I’m excited to welcome Polly to the Eagles as part of our 26/27 roster. Having represented GB at the youth level and recently graduated from the University of Calgary.

“We are looking for Polly to bring her international experiences back to a league that she knows well as she competed here previously with what was Caledonia Pride.

“Her versatility and offensive perimeter game suits our style well and we’ll be looking for her to use that advantage as the season progresses.”

The former GB International at Under-16 and Under-18 levels played for the Scottish club from 2017 until 2021, improving her statistics year on year, with her last year at the Pride averaging 10.9 points, 5.8 rebounds and 2.3 assists per game.

Storie had five years at the University of Calgary in the Canada West Conference and in her senior year which concluded this summer she averaged 11.4 points and 3.7 rebounds a game. She then helped her side to win the Conference tournament earning All-Tournament MVP.

“I am super excited to be joining the Eagles this season. Newcastle is a second home to me, so it felt like a perfect fit after five years away from the British league,” said Storie.

“With my family being from here, I feel I know the basketball community well and I know that they really show up for the games. The fans just ride or die for the Eagles, so I’m really excited to be a part of that.

“I hope to bring some versatility to the team. I like to play stretch-four, so I’m gonna shoot some threes, but also be bit of a passer and play interior style.

“I love playing fast so I’m really excited to bring that to the team this year and I can’t wait to get started!”
