Esh Group Eagles Newcastle are delighted to announce the return of yet another of last season’s Clean Swoop team with 6′ 6” guard/forward Stuart Thomson confirmed for his 3^rd consecutive term on Tyneside.

Stu averaged 6.9 points a game for The Eagles last season, an increase of 2.6 points per outing on his previous and first season for Newcastle. But it was his form in the latter part of the campaign that was particularly eye-catching and what makes him an important piece of The Eagles jigsaw.

The Englishman netted his first double figure score of the year with 12 points against Leicester Riders on the 6^th February and then went on to add a further nine double-figure efforts in the last 18 games of the run-in which saw him average 9.5 points a game in that period.

Head Coach Fab Flournoy alluded to that period when confirming Thomson’s re-signing for the 2015/16 BBL season.

“Stuie struggled early season and had a few problems showing his worth. But, we had faith in him and with Andy being around as well we always felt he’d come good. By the end of the season he was flying and really showed his worth to the team and his team-mates.

It was an excellent transition and showed that Stu has the talent and ability to play at this level on a Championship winning team and can contribute. Now that he’s got our system and is comfortable with his role within my structure I think it’s great news and a boost to us all that he’s back again.”

Thomson makes no secret of the fact that he enjoys being at Newcastle and had the added bonus of playing with big brother Andy last season which he thinks helped.

“Fab and The Eagles Organisation have been great to me and anyone that’s ever played there will tell you that it’s the best club to play for and be involved with. Last season was amazing we were like a band of brothers and I was privileged to play with and be part of such a great set of guys.

“I feel now that I’ve got what Fab and the coaching staff expect of me and I was happy I could contribute so much last season particularly in the run-in. It was also great to have Andy around to help me, encourage me and to be honest give me a good kick up the backside when I needed it.

I guess being able to re-sign for such a great club is a blessing and probably reflects the work I put in last year and the faith that Fab and the guys showed in me. I can’t wait to return and get going again.”

Eagles fans will be delighted with the news that yet another player returns to the ranks that has experience and knowledge of what it is like to play for British Basketball’s most successful franchise and even more so that it’s another well established favourite of the bleachers.
