Georgia Ohrdorf has predicted an upward trajectory for high-flying Newcastle Eagles in 2020 ahead of today’s mouthwatering WBBL Cup semi-final.

The in-form Aussie has emerged as a key figure in a seven-game winning streak that has sparked talk of silverware heading to the North East.

And Ohrdorf has a first final in her sights as Newcastle seek to cause a cup upset at Sevenoaks Suns.

“It would be great to fight for something in a final with this group of players,” said November’s Player of the Month.

“To go into a game knowing there is a big prize at the end of it would be a fantastic experience.

“We are focused on making the WBBL Cup final and maintaining our momentum.

“As far as I’m concerned the only way is up in 2020.”

The Eagles will have to lay to rest the club’s Sevenoaks hoodoo with the WBBL heavyweights targeting a third win on the bounce against Chris Bunten’s side.

The Suns overpowered Newcastle in the Trophy on the opening weekend of the season.

But the hosts came within a whisker of taking a famous scalp at the Eagles Community Arena in October before slipping to an agonising eight-point defeat.

Newcastle have won every game since and Ohrdorf added: “It’s do or die this weekend.

“It’s an exciting time to be wearing an Eagles vest and we know what’s at stake against the Suns.

“We’re a group of players that wants to win – and wants to have fun doing it.

“We’re all aware of the success the men’s team has enjoyed in the past and it would be great to add some WBBL silverware to the trophy cabinet.”

Ohrdorf is staying focused despite the escalation of wild fires back home with pictures of utter devastation hitting the headlines across the world.

“Every day I’m on Facebook checking in with friends and family and it’s a terrible situation,” she added.

“It looks like it’s going to be another very hot weekend back home and I’m just hoping everyone stays safe.”

Bunten heads into his biggest game since 2016’s Playoff final win with a near full squad – Mollie Arnold the only doubt as she nurses a slight ankle injury.

“Fingers crosses that’s still the case come tip-off,” said Newcastle’s playcaller.

“We were dealt the toughest of draws but we couldn’t be in a better position to test Sevenoaks and see how far we’ve come.

“I’m convinced the winner of this weekend’s semi-final will go on to win the WBBL Cup.”

Newcastle’s Suns trip precedes tomorrow’s homecourt clash against Caledonia Pride with the Eagles chasing a seventh straight Championship victory.
