As Newcastle Eagles prepared to face London Lions in the Super League Basketball (SLB) Play-Offs Quarter-Finals on Friday 1 May 2026, fans were being revved-up for the action in an all-new way for the sport.

In the final count down to tip-off, the remote control Vertu Ford known as ‘Vrummie’, driven by a mini-Swoop the Eagle, delivered the game ball to SLB officials on the court.

It was another British basketball first proudly accomplished by the Eagles at the Vertu Arena, celebrating the extension of the club and Eagles Community Foundation’s long-standing partnership with Vertu, which was announced earlier this week.
