The Esh Group Newcastle Eagles announce their first signing of the 2014-15 BBL campaign with the signing of Andrew Thomson. The 6’9” forward makes his return to the North East following two years in France at La Rochelle club.

Thomson recorded 9.5 points per games and 5.1 rebounds during the 2013-14 season and helped take his club to the Play-Off Semi-Finals and fifth place in French NM1.

A proven winner in the BBL, Thomson returns to the Eagles after winning all four BBL titles with the 2011-12 side and hopes to repeat the journey taken that season;

‘I’m very pleased to be making a return back to the Eagles and helping the club to continue the winning run. Retention of the BBL Championship title would be an amazing feat and one that I want to make happen this season.’

Following a highly competitive 2013-14 BBL campaign the Eagles are working hard to bring another competitive group, in an attempt to move into a second decade of title wins. Managing director Paul Blake is excited to have come to an agreement to bring Thomson back to Newcastle;

‘Andy has made a real effort to stay in touch with everyone at the club during his time abroad and we are very pleased to have reached an agreement to see this return. I’m hoping this could be the first of a number of seasons and that we can help Andy settle in the North East both on and off the court.

For now though the focus is on bringing a team together that can compete at the top end of the league, in what is becoming a more competitive league every year.’

The club will be announcing more signings and a pre-season schedule in the near future. Keep up to date with all Eagles news on Facebook and Twitter and at www.newcastle-eagles.com.
