Newcastle Eagles Women’s Super League Basketball squad are delighted to share the huge news of the return to Tyneside for last season’s star, Tierra Hodges.

The powerful all-round forward coming back to lead from the front after a stellar first season in the Women’s top-flight league is a major coup for coach Matt Newby and the franchise.

Arriving in Newcastle last season in December 2023, Hodges made an immediate impact scooping the Player of the Month award after a sensational start to her UK and Eagles career.

She didn’t let up either helping to power Newcastle up the League table and all the way to the O2 Arena for the End of Season Playoff Final.

In doing so averaged a mightily impressive 20.2 points, 2nd in the league in scoring and 11 rebounds, 3rd in the league per game.

Matt Newby is naturally delighted with what he sees as a stellar signing for his 2024/25 roster.

“I don’t think we can underestimate the significance of this signing on a number of levels,” said Newby.

“T, was genuinely a consideration as top five player in the league last season and I feel that deserves acknowledgment.  Her input and impact was significant both on and off the floor.”

“She is an exceptional role model for the young women in the Eagles Academy pathway and showed a real interest in the Foundations multiple community initiatives in which she was supporting.” Adding that.

“As a player she has the capacity and capability to fill multiple statistical categories and an ability to slide through positions (3 / 4 / 5), coupled with her attitude and aptitude to learning, this versatility makes her an incredible asset at to the programme.”

“I look forward to working with T again and helping her maximise her potential and look forward to her continued high level contribution to the team dynamic and the Newcastle Eagles identity.”

Last season Hodges not only took the in-house Player’s Player of the Year award, but earned the fans’ popularity in her six month stay by also taking the supporters’ plaudits as their 2023/24 MVP.

“I’m really excited to be back with the Eagles and playing in front of the best fans in the league,” Hodges added.

“What our team accomplished last season was remarkable and I’m excited to see how far we go this season!”
