This Thursday 18th July, Great Britain’s senior men’s team take on South Sudan in the Subway Summer Slam at London’s Copper Box.

The game is an important test for the Eagles and GB head coach Marc Steutel’s squad ahead of the FIBA EuroBasket 2025 Qualifiers when they begin again in November.

A training camp at Essex followed by two games against international opposition of Argentina and hosts Portugal last week have given Steutel and his coaching staff plenty of positives going into the home court encounter.

“This summer will be a huge opportunity for us as a programme to take meaningful and significant steps forward in achieving our aims”, said Steutel.

“The in-season competitive windows don’t allow for the team to have an extended period together in which is critical when developing the team to compete at the highest level longer term.”

Eagles player Josh Ward-Hibbert suited-up for the national team in front of the packed Vertu Motors Arena crowd back in February and wasted no time in his summer call-up setting out his stall as GB’s second top scorer in their tip-off against Argentina on 12-points with 5 rebounds and 4 steals.

“There has been a tremendous amount of work gone in too making the camp and games a success and I know all the staff and team are looking forward to it and will always do what we can to represent the Senior Men’s National Team programme in the best possible way”, the Eagles and GB head coach added.

“With the weeks culminating in a home game in London against Olympic participants South Sudan, we are so excited to test ourselves at this level in front of our amazing fans and we hope to see you all there.”
