Super League Basketball (SLB) is delighted to announce that Motorpoint Arena Nottingham will host the league’s inaugural Cup Final on March 9 2025, marking a historic moment as the venue’s first-ever major British basketball event.
The Motorpoint Arena is an iconic venue in the heart of Nottingham known for hosting top-tier events ranging from international music acts to world-class sporting occasions, and will welcome its first SLB Final in the spring with the best men’s and women’s hoopers in the country doing battle on the court.
The choice of the Motorpoint Arena represents a bold step forward for SLB, underscoring its commitment to elevating the sport’s profile by bringing major basketball events to new regions and premier venues across the country.
“We are excited to make history by bringing the Super League Basketball Cup Final to the Motorpoint Arena Nottingham,” said Vaughn Millette, Interim Chair of SLB.
“This venue is a perfect fit for an event of this magnitude. Its impressive facilities and passionate local community provide an exceptional platform to showcase the best of British basketball. We are eager to see fans from across the UK come together to witness a thrilling day of action, marking a new chapter in our sport’s growth.”
By selecting Nottingham as the host city, SLB is not only providing basketball fans with a world-class live event experience but also supporting the growth of the sport in the Midlands, a region with a rich sporting heritage.
The event will feature back-to-back men’s and women’s finals, showcasing the top talent in the country as they compete for the coveted Cup titles. The event is set to be a celebration of the sport, with activities planned for all ages, creating a festival-like atmosphere that will extend beyond the games themselves.
The format for the Men’s competition was announced earlier this month, confirming the inclusion of seven wildcard entrants from Basketball England and basketballscotland to join the nine SLB teams in the competition.
The Women’s competition will see the top four teams in the SLB Championship as of December 31, 2024, enter a knockout tournament where first plays fourth and second plays third in a single-leg elimination for a place in the Final.
A pre-sale for tickets will be launched at 9am on Thursday October 31 before going on general sale at 9am on Thursday November 7. Further information can be found on the SLB website.
