Our penultimate line-up of the calendar year brings a trio of starting five debutantes and a new season leader.
Josh Wilcher (Plymouth University Raiders)
The Australian born guard lands his first ever BBL Team of the Week slot after a mesmerising display for Raiders in their win against Surrey United. Wilcher recorded the best performance valuation of the weekend which is hardly a surprise after completing a magnificent double-double by scoring 20 points and a dishing up a staggering 17 assists – the season record so far and one of the best hauls in the modern BBL era.
Brent Benson (Plymouth University Raiders)
It’s an all-Raiders backcourt this week after Benson complimented his colleague with an excellent 28 points by putting on a perimeter master-class at the Pavilions. He sunk a brilliant eight triples to tear down United and was also 2 of 3 inside the three-point line on a blistering shooting night. There was also four assists and three rebounds on a great evening for the south-west club and their guard combo.
Ben Eaves (Manchester Giants)
What a difference 24 hours makes after Manchester Giants bounced back from their mauling at the Eagles with a vital win against Durham to halt their losing skid. Central to that success was the contribution of Eaves who gets a debut berth after proving to be the anchor for his team in the much needed win. The forward finished with 20 points after showing his inside-outside game by knocking down two-of-two from long range to go with a handy eight rebounds and two blocked shots.
Scott Martin (Esh Group Eagles Newcastle)
Our third debutante in our fabulous five is the Eagles’ forward, who finally takes his place after demonstrating why so many opposing coaches regularly speak of him so highly. Martin was flawless from open play en-route to a 20 point haul against Leeds Force. He made all eight of his attempts in the paint and successfully converted his only three-point effort. With just one missed free-throw marring perfection, he also added three rebounds, three steals and two assists.
Demond Watt (Cheshire Phoenix)
The standout Phoenix forward regains outright leadership of having the most BBL Team of the Week appearances after grabbing his sixth starting five place of the campaign. Watt fell just short of posting the best display of the weekend after another breath-taking shooting display. He made a wonderful 11 of 12 at the hoop against London Lions to help his team continue on their winning run, while also completing another classy double-double with 12 rebounds.
Off the bench – Jordan Clarke (Plymouth University Raiders), Pavol Losonsky (Leicester Riders), Drew Sullivan (London Lions), Chavis Holmes (Worcester Wolves), Kramer Knutson (Surrey United), Drew Lasker (Esh Group Eagles Newcastle), Patrick Horstmann (Sheffield Sharks). |
