BBL MVP and quadruple winning Joe Chapman has pledged his allegiance to Newcastle Eagles for a fourth consecutive season. The 6’4″ Chicago born guard had a remarkable comeback season, following a 90% achilles tear suffered in February 2011, ending his 2010-11 campaign.
Chapman joined the Eagles in 2009, and has since won 7 trophies in 3 seasons with the Newcastle side. Joe was second top scorer in the BBL last season, averaging 20.2 points per game and averaged 38.7% from three point range. Eagles first returning heralds the start of a process to put another winning team together for 2012-13 season.
Chapman stated; ‘The club looked after me through a tough time with my achilles injury. I think I’ve still got a little way to go to get back to where I was and I wanted to put another strong season in with the Eagles. I’m looking forward to coming back in the new season 100% ready to go!’
Eagles managing director Paul Blake was excited by the news; ‘It’s great to be announcing Joe’s return. He is one of the hardest working players on this team and to come back from the type of injury he had to win Player of the Year was a fantastic reward for the effort he put in, both on and off the court. We have a lot of work still to do to rebuild this team and repeat what we achieved in 2011-12. Joe is certainly a key building block in making it happen again.’
The Eagles will be looking to make further announcements in the near future as they look to retain the titles won in the 2011-12 Clean Sweep. Season tickets are on sale for the new season and the Eagles Early Bird season ticket discount price ends this Friday 25th May.
