When Esh Group Eagles Newcastle announced the signing of ex-Notre Dame Fighting Irish Capatin and starting forward Scott Martin in 2013/14 many considered it a great coup to get a player of that calibre in to The BBL.

And guess what? After an excellent rookie professional season where he averaged 14.9 points and 9.2 rebounds a game, he’s back for a second season in black and white to the delight of all concerned at The Club.

Eagles Managing Director Paul Blake was especially pleased to be able to coax Martin back to Newcastle for another season.

“When we signed Scott last season we knew he had the potential to be a 15 & 10 guy and he didn’t let us down. Considering it was his first season as a professional and he was coming in with a question mark over him due to the injuries he had in college, he played at times like a seasoned pro.”

“After such a great year we hoped we would be able to bring Scott back even though we thought he’d go further afield. But, we worked hard to reach an agreement and I think it says a lot about his character and how much he enjoyed it with us last season that we were able to clinch this deal.”

With Rahmon Fletcher, Ricky Taylor and Andy Thomson already on board, Martin’s skill set and team ethos adds to what looks like a potent mix as Newcastle prepare for another tough season ahead.

“Scott gives us the added bonus of maintaining a continuity within the roster which is something that Fab likes to do and what we have based a lot ot our success on plus he now knows The BBL as well as our system,” added Blake.

Pre-season starts in earnest on the 8th and 9th September at Sport Central, final teams will be announced for this event in coming days.
