Newcastle Eagles 91 (21,46,72) (Moore 23, Smith 18, Toney 15)

Newcastle Eagles remain top of the BBL after another valuable road win. This time it was a 78-91 victory at Marshall MK Lions.

Eagles were the first to put a run together with a 9-3 start the match thanks to five points from Trey Moore, and two each from Reggie Jackson and Tap Toney. Lions fought back to tie the game at 14-14 on a Robert Youngblood three before Eagles edged ahead again to take the opening quarter 18-21.

Newcastle used their three point lead to their advantage as they gradually pulled away to 25-39 in front midway through the second quarter. Lions were quick to respond though with a 12-4 burst reducing the deficit to 37-43.

However, a Charles Smith two and an Andrew Bridge free throw put the Eagles ahead by nine (37-46) at half time.

After Toney had given Eagles an 11 point lead (37-48) the Lions fought back to trail by just five (47-52). Newcastle moved up a gear in response with a 15-5 burst to hold a 51-67 advantage.

However, a three from Dru Spinks and two threes from Terrell Brown brought Lions back into the match at 60-67. Eagles ended the quarter on a 5-2 run to lead 62-72 heading into the final ten minutes.

Player coach Fab Flournoy and Smith both scored three-pointers in the fourth quarter to keep Lions at bay as Newcastle kept control of their own destiny at the top of the table.
