Newcastle Eagles have swooped for a major new addition ahead of the 2025/26 Super League Basketball (SLB) season, signing American guard/forward Marco Anthony from Finnish side KTP Basket.

The 6’5” two-way threat brings toughness, leadership, and top-level experience to Tyneside after a strong season in Finland’s Korisliiga.

Known for his defensive grit and unselfish play, Anthony adds depth and drive to a reloaded Eagles squad aiming to soar up the standings.

“I’m grateful for the opportunity to join such a historic club and give my all for everyone involved in this family, including the incredible fan base,” said Anthony.

“My previous experiences have taught me what it takes to win and what playing to win truly looks like.

Anthony’s new ‘Eagles’ team head coach Marc Steutel praised Anthony’s character and championship mindset, highlighting the value he brings both on the court and in the locker room.

“Marco is a really exciting addition to our team and someone who I know the Eagles fans will enjoy supporting,” said Steutel.

“Through the recruitment process it became apparent he is solely focussed on winning basketball games and doing all he can to impact this.

“His versatility and mentality will be extremely valuable for our campaign this season and I am looking forward to working with him.”

Anthony becomes the second signings of the summer for Steutel, joining returnee Cole Long who was announced over the weekend, as Newcastle ready their roster for the new season.

At Friday night’s Soaring Into History documentary premiere, the club promised a wave of exciting announcements that will be coming across July as the new season build-up accelerates.

Season tickets are still available from the box office with the extended Early Bird offer open until the end of the month to be sure fans don’t miss a moment of the action in the Vertu Motors Arena from this September.
