Worcester Wolves defeated Esh Group Eagles Newcastle 80-71 to extend their winning streak in the BBL Championship to six games.


It was point-for-point for the majority of the first quarter, but Wolves closed the opening period with a 7-2 run to gain a 29-22 advantage.

The home side’s deficit roamed around the 5-point mark throughout the second quarter, but Eagles finally recaptured the lead at 41-39 after a pair of free-throws from Malik Cooke.

Having gone into the halftime break with a 44-40, the Newcastle club had increased the gap to eight points in the middle of the third quarter.


However, a strong finish to the period allowed Wolves to jump back ahead, as Zaire Taylor hit a three-pointer to make it 58-56 in favour of the visitors.

Eagles had shortly shot back in front in the beginning for the fourth quarter, but Taylor hit another three to spark a 12-0 run for the visitors, who never looked back and kept a clean record.

Zaire Taylor led the winners with 25 points, including a pair of key three-pointers in crucial moments of the game, while Will Creekmore added a monstrous double-double, collecting 16 points, 17 rebounds and give assists.

For Eagles, Scott Martin had a team-high 17 points and 14 rebounds, Charles Smith chipped in with points, as Darius Defoe added 14 points and 12 boards.
