Keeping continuing from last season’s roster that went all the way to the O2 Play-Offs Final against London Lions, Newcastle Eagles are pleased to announce the return of Sarah Birkett to their Women’s Super League Basketball roster for 2024/25.
The popular member of last season’s roster is a great presence around the camp and a vital part of the practice rotation as well as adding valuable support minutes from the bench.
This will be her second season with the Eagles after returning from a 3-year basketball hiatus with Bristol Flyers in 2022/23.
The 5’ 7” guard is really looking forward to returning to The Eagles roster and the faithful fans in the Vertu Motors Arena.
“I am looking forward to being a part of a strong roster and getting back to work,” said Birkett.
“It will be great to get a full preseason in with Coach Newby and be able to start firing on all cylinders early on.
“Our fan support was incredible towards the end of last season so I really look forward to a strong start and meeting all of the new faces!”
Head Coach Matt Newby is more than happy to return Birkett to his roster this season as he said after Birkett signed.
“Sarah committing to continuing her basketball journey with us is a huge positive,” Newby added.
“Her game continues to evolve and the commitment to the programme and her team is unwavering.”
“She sets the standard more often than not in terms of sacrifice on the court and regularly puts her body on the line in physical plays that give you one extra possession.”
With the season now set including pre-season action Birkett will join her teammates in preparing for what is looking like an exciting season ahead.
Fans will see the Eagles new and returning player’s at The Launch tonight with four more women’s team players to be exclusively introduced for fans in attendance.
