Newcastle Eagles are delighted to announce their fourth signing for the new season and give 6’1” Australian guard Mitchell Clarke a chance to show case his talents in the top-flight of UK basketball after two excellent seasons with Reading Rockets.

The dual-nationality Aussie-Brit first signed for Reading in 2023 and in his first season in the UK helped the Rockets to the Play-Off final and after averaging 15.8 points, 4.6 rebounds and 4.8 assists per game he was selected to the NBL British Team of the Year.

“I am super excited to be joining the Eagles this season. I can’t wait to get stuck in, and play in front of the fans in the Vertu Arena”, said Clarke.

“Having achieved success in the NBL here in England and NBL1 in Australia, I’m ready to bring high energy and toughness on both ends of the floor, and do whatever it takes to help us succeed”.

After such a superb first season he went even better in his second Rockets campaign in NBL Division 1, recently replaced by the British Championship Basketball (BCB).


The former-Rocket scored 19 points in the 97–75 KitKing Trophy Final victory over Milton Keynes and then he recorded 21 points and 14 assists against to help his team win the NBL England D1 Play-Off title.

Coach Marc Stetuel’s new signing was named in the NBL England D1 Team of the Year and earned NBL England D1 British Team of the Year honours for the second straight year, after averaging 17.8 points, 6.4 assists and 1.5 steals per game, shooting at a 2nd place league standing of 45.3% from the 3-point line.

“He is a skilled and hard nosed player who has demonstrated his impact on team performance and winning consistently.


“He cares about defending the right way and I believe he will fit seamlessly into our Eagles brand of basketball”.

Clarke is currently playing in the Western Division of Australia’s NBL 1 with the Warwick Senators of Perth and challenging for honours once again. He’s previously played six seasons in Australia with spells at Perry Lakes Hawks, Perth Wildcats and Bendigo Braves.

“Mitch has dominated in D1 for the past two seasons and know he can be successful within our system”, the Eagles play-caller added.

“I’m excited to see him prove his worth at SLB and ENBL levels, and certain our fans will love watching him compete”.

The 6’1″ guard’s unveiling starts a busy week of announcements in Steutel’s signing spree as his 2025/26 Eagles roster begins to take shape, before he heads out to the FIBA EuroBasket 2025 group stage in Finland with Great Britain next month in his dual-role as national team head coach.

Fixtures for the new campaign are expected within the next few weeks and season tickets to be in the Vertu Arena for the action are still available from the box office with the extended Early Bird offer.
