BBL Team of the Week – Week 29

It’s the penultimate line-up of the regular season and we still have space for a debutante and a trio of players who all rack up their fifth appearance of the campaign.

Chavis Holmes (Worcester Wolves)
The Wolves’ guard posted a classy display to lead his team to a success against Glasgow Rocks in what was the best performance valuation of the entire week. Holmes made jump-shots and sliced to the hoop to record a fantastic 69% floor shooting, en-route to a highly efficient 22-point haul. He also handed out a super seven assists and did the dirty work on the boards with seven rebounds, as well as grabbing two steals on a fine night of work, which landed him his fifth slot of the season.

Neil Watson (Leicester Riders)
The guard held a three-point shooting clinic for his team in their triumph against Manchester Giants, who are known for their own love of perimeter shooting. However it was Watson who delivered from downtown after sinking a superb seven triples as he amassed 21 points. As if that wasn’t impressive enough, the guard sealed a stellar double-double after dishing up a wonderful ten assists, along with four rebounds and three steals as he also made it into our starting five for a fifth time.

David Aliu (Cheshire Phoenix)
The British forward was on fire as Phoenix torched Durham Wildcats and racked up a big win against their opponents from the north-east. Aliu could barely miss after making one of two from long-range and a brilliant 70% inside the three-point line. He also completed an excellent double-double by harvesting ten rebounds and went on to add four assists and three steals, to take his team to a one-sided victory and cement a second BBL Team of the Week berth for himself.

Scott Martin (Esh Group Eagles Newcastle)
The forward helped the injury-hit league leaders to dodge a bullet in their nail-biting overtime success against Leeds Force. Martin helped his side dig out a priceless win after scoring 21 points, including a couple of big triples. He also came away with a double-double to his name after collecting 13 rebounds, although it was his defensive work which proved most valuable. He swatted four shots and grabbed a steal to get the job done at both ends of the floor and take his fifth appearance of the campaign.

John Barber (Sheffield Sharks)
Our sole debutante is the Sharks’ forward, who grabs his first place in the BBL Team of the Week after a dazzling display at the Copper Box Arena live on BBLtv. He helped the Yorkshire side take down the hometown Lions and build momentum ahead of the Play-Offs with a standout double-double. Barber left the capital having registered 16 points and 11 rebounds, as well as serving up four assists and snatching a couple of steals in an eye-catching effort.

Off the bench – TrayVonn Wright (Leicester Riders), Reggie Middleton (Glasgow Rocks), Zaire Taylor (London Lions), Makal Stibbins (London Lions), Pierre Hampton (Plymouth University Raiders), Mike Tuck (Sheffield Sharks), Demond Watt (Cheshire Phoenix).
