BUNTEN BAGS MOLTEN WBBL COACH OF THE MONTH FOR FEBRUARY

Chris Bunten has been rewarded for reviving Team Northumbria’s tilt at the title after being handed the Molten WBBL Coach of the Month of the award for February.

In a shortened programme due to Great Britain’s participation in the FIBA EuroBasket Women 2017 qualifying window, the North-East side racked up a winning hat-trick from their three fixtures to catapult themselves back into the WBBL Championship race.

The play-caller bagged the first coaching gong at the start of the season, but then witnessed his team’s scorching form tail off from mid-December when injuries to standout players took their toll.

However February witnessed a renaissance which began with a hard-fought 61-53 triumph at Manchester Mystics and the international break didn’t interrupt the momentum of Bunten and his side.

When the action resumed last weekend, Team Northumbria made it three wins in a row after taking down Cardiff Met Archers 63-58 and then recording one of their most impressive results of the season by winning 77-69 at Westfield Health Sheffield Hatters.

Bunten has just been announced as an Assistant Coach for the Great Britain U20 Women this summer and has successfully held off January’s Molten BBL Coach of the Month Dave Greenaway for this month’s accolade, after the Nottingham Wildcats’ play-caller maintained his side’s perfect league record.
