Eagles’ head coach Fabulous Flournoy held his fourth High Performance basketball camp at the city’s Benfield Centre for Sporting Excellence. Forty-five National League-standard players aged 12 to 18 from across the region were invited to the camp. Guest coaches included the England Commonwealth Games bronze medal-winning head coach Peter Scantlebury, currently head coach at Sheffield Sharks. Former Newcastle Eagles player Tony Simms, head coach with the National League Division Two team University of Wolverhampton, was also involved.
The youngsters also had the opportunity to work with strength and conditioning coach Nick Probett as well as England Under-18 and Northumbria University women’s head coach Deirdre Hayes. Plans are already under way for next year’s coaching camp. For more information about basketball opportunities in Tyne and Wear contact the Eagles Community Foundation on (0191) 245 3881.
