U16 boys coast to huge win at home to Edinburgh
The U16 boys celebrated a fine performance and dominant 138-23 home court success against basement dwellers, City of Edinburgh.
A focused team performance from the outset saw the Eagles hitting most of their pre-game targets around spacing the floor, rim-running and moving the ball on offence, plus not giving up middle drives and having active help at the other end of the court. In an explosive opening, the Eagles dictated brilliantly with a 33-3 first quarter as captain Jesse Osarenkhoe and Jakub Bobkowski both set the tone with plenty of buckets. There was also a long-awaited debut for Ukrainian guard, Arkhypp Dereka who was finally given international clearance to play.
And, he made the most of it with an all-action display that saw him deliver at both ends, picking up four quick steals within minutes of entering the court and also dishing up assists and getting his first baskets in an Eagles vest.
In what proved to be a very slick Eagles team effort albeit against a bottom of the Premier League side, the players turned on the style after the break with some fine passing from Tom Beall in particular.
“It was good to see us largely executing the game plan and the players all working to support each other on and off the court to get a big victory,” said Head Coach Chloe Gaynor.
“The win will be good for our confidence and slowly but surely, we are getting closer to where we want and need to be at this stage of the season,” she added.
Bobkowsi top-scored with 24 points, while Osarenkhoe added 22 for the winning team.
