This was the second win in a row for the Newcastle Eagles U16s Conference Team as they travelled to Leeds to face City of Leeds Basketball Club.

The boys arrived in good spirits to their first away game of the season, and they started the game the way they intended to continue.

Newcastle won the tip and the ball headed straight to the Eagles end where Lucca Snee got the scoring underway with 2 quick baskets.  Harry Merrifield was next to get his name on the score sheet and Leeds were unable to find and answer to this early onslaught.  A three-point shot form Luke Tucker kept the points coming.  Another basket from Harry Merrifield forced Leeds to call a time out.  Leeds came back out on the floor and took procession of the ball but some strong defence from Luke Tucker sent the ball back to the Eagles end where he added another 3-point shot to his points tally.  A foul at the Leeds ends sent them to the free throw line but they were unable to take advantage.  Lucca Snee added 2 more points to the scoreboard.  Finally, Leeds found their way through the Eagles defensive line and landed their first basket of the game.  Leonard Wilson was next to get his name of the scoreboard with 2 quick baskets and again it seemed Leeds had little answer to this strong Newcastle side.  As sloppy turn over gave the ball to Leeds and gave them their second basket of the game.  Aiden Smith joined the points party with his first basket of the game and another time out was called.  Lucca Snee opened the scoring at the restart with 2 quick baskets.  Aiden Smith stepped up to the free thrown line for another point to his tally.  Another corner 3 from Luke Tucker widened the score gap in favour of the Eagles and the quarter ended 33 -8

Harry Merrifield broke the scoring drought for the Eagles with a 2-point basket.  Harry Railton added another 2 baskets, and the Eagles were flying once again.  Joey Little was next to land a basket. And the quarter ended   47-15 in favour of the Eagles.

The second half saw Leeds open the scoring from the free throw line.  Harry Merrifield went form end to end to add the Eagles first points of the half.  Luke Tuckers strong defence under the Leeds basket sent the ball to the Eagles end where Luke Brown scored his first points of the game.  Harry Merrifield added 2 more and the Eagles were on a roll.  Leeds finally found their way to the basket, but this was quickly answered by Lucca Snee adding 2 points to his total.  Leo Glaholm was next on the score sheet after a full court run, quickly followed by Leonardo Wilson.  Another 2 baskets came from Leo Glaholm and the Eagles widened the score gap.  A steel by Tyler Cadet sent the ball to a waiting Leo Glaholm for another 2 points which was followed up by 2 more points for Harry Railton. And the quarter ended 67 -21 to the Eagles.

Leeds were left with a mountain to climb in the final quarter.  Aiden Smith opened the scoring from the free throw line.  Leeds managed a basket, but Leo Glaholm had the answer to this with a basket of his own.  Perry Boston added his name to the score sheet for his first points of the game.  Leeds found their way to the basket after some end-to-end play with a 3 point shot but Harry Merrifield answered this with a three-point shot of his own.  A time out was called by Leeds to rally their troops.  Leeds stepped up to the free throw line at the restart for 1 point.  Harry Railton kept the Eagles points ticking over by adding 2 more.  An assist from Aiden Smith gave Lucca Snee another 2 points for his tally.  Followed by another 2 points after an assist from Luke Tucker.  Leeds snuck in a basket at their end, but Luke Tucker and Tyler Cadet stood strong under the Leeds basket to deny them another.  An assist form Luke Tucker to Luke Brown this time led to another Eagle basket and the game ended 84 – 34 in favour of the Eagles.
