Grimsby Phoenix 72 v Newcastle Eagles 82

Today was the season opener for our Eagles U14 Boys Conference at Grimsby with Eagles claiming the victorious win 82-72.

The Eagles came out with a very quick start to the game full pressing the court which Grimsby struggled to control. The Eagles kept this press on while communicating and getting steals as a team to turn them into transition point, but early fouls from the Eagles were troubling since Grimsby got into team fouls early, giving Grimsby some momentum, where they played very well in transition, getting a lot of points on the fast break, with the Eagles finding it hard to adjust.

Grimsby started to get some momentum by getting fast break points and offensive rebound, with the Eagles struggling to cope with the physicality Grimsby brought. The eagles stopped this by slowing the tempo down on offence and having great ball movement and trusting one another by passing to one another, confusing the Grimsby defence.

The Eagles continued to press throughout the second half, where Grimsby were struggling to cope and both teams got very passionate in a close, tough battle. The Eagles ended a very close game with 3 minutes to go very well, continuing the theme of pressing up and turning it into transition point, making the eagles win by 10.
