Newcastle U14s snap their home winning streak at home to Cheshire
The game started with the home team attempting to set the pace from the tip off. The visiting team went on a 6-0 run as the eagles needed to find their feet. The home team capitalised on the fact that the visiting team transition defence was not at full power to catch up. 1st quarter ended 17-27 in favour of the visiting team.
The second quarter the eagles traded baskets with Cheshire but with both teams only scoring points but Eagles were unable to convert some layups which led to them being slightly outscored in the quarter. The first half ended 34- 49
The first half scoring was dominated by Onyenekwe, Osasrenkhoe in Q1 and Weech and Peters in Q2 . Coach Calvin from the eagles sat his at the team at half time to discuss the current situation in the game and the changes that needed to be made in the second half of the same.
In third quarter the home team made a few mistakes of their own to allowing Cheshire to score but overall the home team showed a renewed vigor and presence on the floor with defensive intensity being the key to success. The 3rd quarter ended 54-64.
The fourth saw the Eagles try to hold their ground and capitalise on the foul trouble that Cheshire were in but Cheshire were able to take the final buzzer and the win 75-87.
U14s Head Coach, Calvin George said: “Very disappointed in the 1st half of the game but was able to turn it around in the third quarter, but we need to make some serious changes ahead of our next weekend”
