Seriös Group Newcastle Eagles have confirmed summer signings Scott Spencer and Will Neighbour have played their last games of 2023.

The sidelined duo will sit out this month’s trips to CSO Voluntari, Cheshire Phoenix and Plymouth City Patriots.

And neither Neighbour nor Spencer will be available for Newcastle’s final homecourt clash of the calendar year when Polish side Enea Stelmet Zastal Zielona Góra visit Tyneside on December 28.

“Scott had surgery on his back and is already recovering so he’ll be back with us within the next five to six weeks,” explained head coach Marc Steutel.

“Will is going to have minor knee surgery in eight days and we’d also expect that one to be a six-week recovery period.”

Spencer has struggled all season with a recurring back problem but did manage to suit up last month with the help of painkilling injections.

However, the US star suffered a setback against Surrey Scorchers and missed Newcastle’s homecourt clashes against the Scorchers and Bristol Flyers.

Neighbour has been on limited minutes for the last four weeks in a bid to manage a knee problem.

But club bosses opted to sanction surgery now in a bid to bring the big man back into the fold following January’s Trophy competition.
