Our Central Venue League is up and running for the new season and is in full swing. Eagles Community Foundation staff have done a fantastic job in adding new clubs and teams to the various divisions.

The “CVL” continues to grow and provide a fantastic opportunity for young basketballers in the North East to play the game and continue to lay-down a legacy.

Under 18s Division

Cramlington Vikings lead the way in the early going and have established a 3 – 0 record after wins over Westgate Hoopstars 43 – 41, North Shields 38 – 34 and CC Sparks 37 – 29 showing they can win tough games.

Newcastle East Griffins have had mixed fortunes so far beating Kenton Force 50 – 25 but losing a thriller to Westgate Hoopstars 44 – 47. Kenton Force bounced back from the loss to defeat CC Sparks 44 – 20 but then lost a great game to debutants Oxclose by the narrowest of margins, 35 – 36.

Under 16s Division A

The early leaders are Newcastle East Griffins by virtue of having played more games. They beat Westgate Hoopstars 58 – 24 and then South Tyneside 24 – 17 before being blown out by North Shields 78 – 12.

North Shields also won the other game they have so far played downing South Tyneside 45 – 24 to go 2 – 0 for the season. That’s the same record that Kenton Force have also reached in their games which were both close affairs.

They saw off Westgate Hoopstars in a hard-fought game 40 – 36 and then followed that up with a solid 39 – 33 over South Tyneside.

Under 16s Division B

Oxclose and Ryton Rockets are the front-runners in this division after both won their opening games. Oxclose defeated Gosforth Goliaths 41 – 29 and then were 37 – 24 victor’s over Morpeth.

Ryton meanwhile had a high-scoring win over Kingsmeadow Kings 61 – 40 and then their second victory was closer but still comfortable 35 – 27 over Gosforth Goliaths. Goliaths had previous picked up an excellent result over Morpeth by 73 – 34.

Under 14s Division A

Newcastle East Griffins have a perfect 3 – 0 record to lead the division so far. They started with a 40 – 30 defeat of Kenton Force and then almost repeated that score-line in defeating Cardinal Hornets Black 40 – 31. Their third win was a solid 54 – 25 result over Westgate Hoopstars.

North Shields are also undefeated after two games. They produced a great performance to beat Westgate Hoopstars 62 – 20 and then were very good again in defeating Kenton Force 45 – 27.

The division’s other game saw Cardinal Hornets Black record their first win of the season in some style by seeing off Westgate Hoopstars 63 – 21.

Under 14s Division B

South Tyneside are the trailblazers in this division having won all three games they have played so far. A strong opening performance saw them victorious over Cardinal Hornets Stingers by 57 – 20. They followed this up by holding off Cramlington Vikings 28 – 23 and then were impressive in their 52 – 26 win over Kingsmeadow Kings.

The Kings had also lost 44 – 12 to Tyne Met Trojans but did record a good win over Morpeth by 33 – 27.

Cramlington Vikings have a pair of wins to go alongside their loss to South Tyneside. They were involved in a very close one with Cardinal Hornets Gold edging it 26 – 24 and then saw off Cardinal Hornets Stingers in fine style by 32 – 12.

Cardinal Hornets Gold had two wins as well. In the derby clash against Cardinal Hornets Stingers they earned the bragging rights with a 49 – 12 win and then followed this up with a fine win over Morpeth by 31 – 24.

Under 12s Division A

This division is currently being dominated by Newcastle East Griffins and South Tyneside Gold. The Griffins are 6 – 0 and Gold stand at 5 – 1 with their only loss at the hands of the Griffins by 28 – 9.

Griffins’ other wins have come over Cardinal Hornets Black in a tight one, 13 – 10, Westgate Hoopstars by 20 – 5, a 22 – 13 success over Kenton Force, another thriller against Hornets Black which ended 22 – 20 and Westgate Hoopstars again this time 24 – 18.

South Tyneside Gold meanwhile had triple success over Kenton Force. Firstly by 32 – 9, then 17 – 12 and then finally an excellent 23 – 1 victory. Their two victories over Westgate Hoopstars were a lot closer. The first was a 19 – 11 win and then an absolute nail-biting 14 – 13 second success.

Cardinal Hornets Black picked up a couple of nice results after defeating Kenton Force 31 – 8 and then seeing off Westgate Hoopstars 25 – 12. The Hoopstars however have one in the win column after defeating Kenton Force 11 – 3.

Under 12s Division B

A huge amount of games in this division sees two teams still with identical unbeaten records. Both Gosforth Goliaths and North Shields are boasting 6 – 0 standings.

Goliaths have recorded wins over Ryton Rockets 18 – 8, South Tyneside Black 18 – 0, Kingsmeadow Kings 9 – 4, Cardinal Hornets Gold 20 – 8, Tyne Met Trojans 10 – 5 and Cardinal Hornets Stingers 16 – 11 in an impressive run.

As for North Shields their wins have come against Morpeth 18 – 7, Ryton Rockets 23 – 4, a superb 38 – 2 win over South Tyneside Black, a 25 – 4 defeat of Kingsmeadow, downing Cardinal Hornets Gold 44 – 9 and finishing strongly for now be beating Tyne Met Trojans 50 – 6.

Cramlington Vikings have three wins over Morpeth by 17 – 2, Cardinal Hornets Gold 20 – 6 and Ryton Rockets 18 – 4. They also have a loss against Tyne Met Trojans 11 – 6.

The Trojans also lost to Kingsmeadow Kings 18 – 3 and Cardinal Hornets Gold 15 – 4 but have another win on their records over Cardinal Hornets Stingers 18 – 7.

Stingers meanwhile had started strongly with two early wins. A low-scoring thriller with South Tyneside Black they won 9 – 6 and an even closer win over Kingsmeadow Kings 14 – 12. They then lost the big derby clash with Hornets Gold 15 – 11.

Morpeth had a really good win over Ryton Rockets 31 – 9 and followed this up by defeating South Tyneside Black 20 – 5. They also have a pair of victories over Kingsmeadow Kings 19 – 13 and Cardinal Hornets Gold 18 – 14 so are also having a good season.

The other two games played in this division involved Ryton Rockets who had a 14 – 5 victory over South Tyneside Black and then lost 18 – 10 against Kingsmeadow Kings.
