BBL Team of the Week – Week 11

Our line-up this week features two of the frontrunners to be season leaders.

Neil Watson (Leicester Riders)

It’s back-to-back appearances for the Riders’ man after he was instrumental in helping his team extract revenge on Glasgow Rocks for their painful BBL Cup exit last month. Watson was the star of the show as Riders claimed the head-to-head in the BBL Championship. The dynamic guard produced an all-action effort and emerged with 25 points, six assists, five rebounds and four steals to complete a fine evening of work.

Zaire Taylor (London Lions)

The Lions’ guard books his second slot in the BBL Team of the Week starting five after a standout shooting performance against Manchester Giants. Taylor finished with a massive 30 points after making 61% from the floor and also doing much of the hard work for his team on the glass from the backcourt. In fact, he came within just one rebound of completing a double-double, as well as snapping up three steals and dishing up two assists.

Demond Watt (Cheshire Phoenix)

It’s a third appearance in four weeks for the driving force behind Cheshire’s resurgence and six game winning streak. Watt produced a breath taking display and the best of the weekend in the BBL during the win against Glasgow with a spectacular 10 of 11 shooting display. His 23 points via a mesmerising 91% from the floor, was complimented by 13 rebounds as he racked up another double-double. Meanwhile three assists, two blocks and a steal helped to accrue a massive performance valuation of 38.

Alif Bland (Bristol Flyers)

While Flyers lost an essential cog in the wheel through the injury to Doug Herring, they still have Bland to help inspire a renaissance and he certainly delivered in the exciting success at home to Manchester Giants. He amassed a brilliant double-double of 20 points and 17 rebounds to put the visitors to the sword. He shot an efficient 60% and came up with his usual haul of blocked shots – this time getting four of them to go with two steals and two assists.

Robert Thurman (Worcester Wolves)

The ‘Thurminator’ returns to our fabulous five after having just been squeezed out of the starting line-up during recent weeks. The centre produced an effort which rivalled that of Watt for the best display of the weekend after harvesting a staggering 25 point and 21 rebound double-double in the victory at Plymouth University Raiders. It was a sublime contribution from the big man, who finished well at the hoop and recorded a 60% field goal return.

Off the bench – Jamal Williams (Worcester Wolves), Fran Urli (Durham Wildcats), Chavis Holmes (Worcester Wolves), Kieron Achara (Glasgow Rocks), Josh Wilcher (Plymouth University Raiders), Scott Martin (Esh Group Eagles Newcastle), Sam Martin (Durham Wildcats)
